Craig R. Smith, MD is the Chair of the Department of Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/ Columbia University Medical Center, as well as Valentine Mott Professor of Surgery at CUMC.
Dr. Smith is Board Certified in thoracic surgery and general surgery.
Dr. Smith has been named one of America’s Top Doctors as well as New York Metro Area’s Top Doctor by Castle Connolly's Top Doctors™ for the last twelve years running, as well as New York Magazine’s Top Doctors from 2002-2013. Additionally, Dr. Smith was named Practitioner of the Year by NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia in 2004.
Dr. Smith attended Case Western Reserve University for Medical School, did his internship, residency, chief residency in general surgery, and fellowship in vascular surgery at University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, and his cardiothoracic surgery residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/ Columbia University Medical Center.
